The Short of Things

I've got crop tops on my mind! Recently, my friend sported one at an event and it got me thinking about crop tops. The good, the bad and the shiny.
Spring 2012 showed us some bralets and cropped tops. Think veggie printed 60's bralet tops from Dolce and Gabbana to dressy gothic lace ones from Emilio Pucci. This trend was retained and showcased during the Spring 2013 collections as well. Designers like Balenciaga, Balmain and Marc Jacobs showed different styles of cropped tops in their collections.
I spotted this trend on the ramp for Spring 2013 and while I did mention it in one of my articles, I realised that for all their awesomeness, crop tops deserve a post of their own.

Spring 2013: Balmain, Rag & Bone, Balenciaga, Dion Lee and Marc Jacobs
Its a trend that is fun and can be worn with much style for a day trip shopping, or for a night out with friends. It shows off a perfect slice of skin without looking like Maddona, circa 90's. The point of this look is to not show your belly button, but to show a sexy inch or two of skin, while looking cool and relaxed.

Crop Top: Streetstyle

The crop top is a versatile piece of clothing and can be paired with numerous things to get the right look. I personally like the idea of pairing them with loose silhouttes and high waisted bottoms. Think palazzo pants, high waited shorts and pencil skirts or even maxi skirts. A toned mid-riff and oodles of confidence is what you need to carry this off with style.

This trend is very Sex and the City, Carrie meeting Big at a bar and going out for a drink with her four single friends. For the numerous number of times I have seen Sex and the City, I know that she is the one person who represents this trend the best. She definitely has all the goods to back it up!

I am really feeling this trend and cant wait for the temperatures to soar up a little. Sporting midrifs is not just a beach look anymore. Now, lets get working on that diet and those abs, stat!

  2. SJP has got to work out like 3 hours a day, she has impossibly toned abs.

But I am especially loving the bare upper-midriff thing. I feel like Britney made the regular bare midriff a bit white-trashy, whereas the upper midriff has all of the sexy without any of the stigma! No?

  4. "without looking like Maddona, circa 90's" This made me laugh :D
Too bad it's very, very cold here now to show some midriff! I like sporting it with high-waisted skirts.
